The Uniqueness Of Goat Cheese

Published by admin under Cheese

Cheese is a delicious food product that is made from milk gathered from certain mammals. Two of those animals from which milk is gathered to make cheese are a cow and a goat. There are a number of benefits to using both types of milk to make cheese products.

However, the use of goat s milk to make goat cheese is a widely popular cheese based on a number of reasons. Two of those reasons that contribute to the popularity of goat cheese are its nutritional value and the actual taste of the goat cheese.

Nutritional Value Of Goat Cheese

If you were to compare the nutritional value of cheese made from cow’s milk and cheese made from goat s milk you would notice some significant differences. Those specific areas of difference would be in the area of nutrients, calories, cholesterol and fat.

For example, the protein found in goat s cheese is twice as much as that which is found in cheese made from the milk of a cow. In addition, goat cheese contains fewer calories than other types of cheese. In fact, goat cheese has one less third calories.

Also, if you compare goat cheese with cream cheese you will find that goat cheese has half the cholesterol and fat. This is due to the fact that the fat which is found in milk products comes from fat globules contained in the milk. Characteristically, the fat globules found in goat milk are smaller in nature as compared to the globules found in cow’s milk. In addition, this makes the cheese easier to digest.

The Distinct Taste Of Goat Cheese

When it comes to the actual taste of goat cheese many first time tasters are surprised. This is because goat cheese has a very sharp and exciting flavor.

This tart taste is due to the fact that goat cheese contains fatty acids that can be described at mid range level. These acids are called caprylic, capric and caproic acids. It is these acids that give the goat cheese its tangy flavor. Also, the strength of the taste can be due to the hormonal influence of the female goat.

In addition, the taste of the goat cheese can be heavily influenced by the food that the goat is eating. This is due to the fact that goats have a very powerful digestive system. This allows the goats to eat vegetation that other animals cannot assimilate. Therefore, goats may eat plants that are bitter or pungent in flavor which transfers to the milk that is produced.

French Cheese can add a European Touch to your Entertaining

Published by admin under Cheese

France is certainly in the forefront of cheese manufacturing, with over 500 varieties of cheeses that are made in this region alone! While many of these cheeses are of the soft variety, French cheeses can actually be a healthy alternative to some of the cheese favorites that are frequently served in the United States. French cheeses are lower in fat while packing in the flavor because of the higher water content in soft cheeses that actually keeps the fat count at a reasonable level. These delicious varieties of cheese can be a great choice for everyday, by using them in pasta dishes and sprinkled into salads. They also work well for entertaining, on platters offering a variety of cheeses with crackers and crusty breads for spreading.

French Cheese and Other Foods

French cheeses make a nice complement to a number of different types of food, including breads, fruits and honey. Soft cheeses like the popular brie taste delicious when paired with fruits like blackberries or figs. Blue cheeses work well with a number of fruits, as well as a variety of nuts for maximum flavor and variety. Try a salad sprinkled with blue cheese and chopped walnuts for a delicious topping. Semi-hard French cheeses are delightfully paired with fruits like pineapple, kiwi and cherries. Chutneys are another nice complement to many of the cheeses today, and you can make your own or buy them in a variety of gourmet shops. Try placing a bowl of chutney next to your cheese platter for guests to serve themselves.

French Cheese and Wine

It is hard to think about the delicious French cheeses without considering which wine is the best pairing. Wine and cheese go together like peanut butter and jelly, but the question always becomes which wine is the right choice? Red wines are often the clear choice with French cheeses, but there are many white selections that will work equally well. The best rule of thumb to keep in mind is to avoid a wine that is too light to mix with the pungent aromas and flavors of the cheeses that you will be serving. It is also a good idea to limit the number of choices in cheeses that you place on your platter to ensure that the ones you select will work best with your wine selection. Stronger cheese flavors will require a more full-bodied wine, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Shiraz. On the other hand, softer cheeses can be quite nice with a lighter and fruitier wine like Beaujolais.

When in doubt about the right wine to serve with your French cheese platters, ask someone at your local liquor mart for advice. Many of these stores will offer wine experts that will answer all of your questions.

What Are Some Basic Cake Decorating Ideas And Tips?

Published by admin under Cake Decorating

After you have baked the cake, and it has cooled, the next step is decorating the cake. While this can be a fun and pleasurable task, this is also the step that takes a bit of skill and patience. I hope, these tips will allow you to have more fun decorating your cake.

Let’s begin with the basics. The cake decorating tips that are essential and things that you need to know before you. You will need a workplace that will afford enough room to be able to decorate your cake without being cramped. You also need to be away from disturbances and you will not need to move away from because you will be in the way of others. The first thing to know about cake decorating, is the fact that the cake must be completely cooled before you make any attempt to decorate. If the cake is still warm, you will run into many problems.

The next item is to make sure you have gathered all of the tools and ingredients for decorating your cake. Some items you will need are: a syringe or piping bag, the type and size tips you will be using, and the coupler to attach the tips to the piping bag. You will need to plan how you will decorate the cake ahead of time, so you can have all of the tools you need on hand when you begin decorating.

To begin with you need to ice, or frost the cake with royal icing, butter cream icing, or fondant icing. To start with, make sure you place a thin layer of frosting over the top to hold the crumbs together. When that is done, you will frost over that layer. It is important to make sure the icing you use is the right consistency. If the icing is too thin or too thick it will affect the end result of your cake decorating. If you are creating a decorated cake and you think your frosting is too thin, you can add a bit more confectioners sugar. Make sure you add this a little at a time as it can become too stiff if you add too much. If you feel your icing is too stiff, carefully add a bit more liquid.

Icing is used in different consistencies for different cake decorating techniques. When you are making roses, or any flower with upright petals, and will be piping figures on the cake, you will want to use a stiff icing or your petals may droop. To make stars, flowers with flat petals, and shell borders, you will want to use a medium consistency. A thin icing is used for writing on the cake, and thinner, more delicate work such as vines and leaves. If you add about 2 teaspoons of light corn syrup to your icing, you will find the icing will flow easier and make it more flexible.

flowers with flat petals. A thin icing mixture should be used for writing characters, and thinner, pointier shapes and styles such as leaves and vines. Add a couple of teaspoons of light corn syrup to the icing mix to make it more flexible and easier flowing.

Once the cake is iced, it is time to begin decorating. The way you hold the icing bag is important, as the direction and angle you hold the piping bag will influence the way the patterns and shapes you will create, will turn out. Thankfully there are only two positions to hold the piping bag to make certain designs.

The firs position is to hold the piping bag at a 90 degree angle, straight up from the surface of the cake. This is used for the simpler decorations that don’t involve a lot of movement in making the design. The center of rosebuds, adding eyes to a character or making stars and dots. The other position involves the piping bag being held at a 45 degree angle, or holding the bag half-way between straight up and the surface of the cake.

In this position you have more flexibility to create sweeping styles, and create shapes with your piping hand. You can use this angle for flower petals, or writing on the cake. Some of the piping tips, like the tips for basket weave, petal and ruffle, have ends that are irregular. There is a right and wrong way to hold the bag when working with them.

Now that you know the basics here are a few tips to start you on your way to making a decorated cake.

- Basket Weave - Using this technique will give the sides of your cake the look of a basket. You may want to practice on a piece of waxed paper until you feel confident enough to begin on the cake. Using the basket weave tip and an icing that is of medium consistency, take turns applying a vertical stripe, following it with a horizontal stripe across the vertical. Make sure the horizontal stripes are a bit longer so the vertical stripe will fit across it. Soon you will see a basket pattern become apparent.

- Bows - This technique will make your cake look like a wrapped gift. Use a flat tip and medium icing. Hold your bag at a 45 degree angle and sweep your bag left, making half of the bow. Make the same movement to the right, making a figure 8. Hold the bag and sweep downward and out from the center of the bow, once on each side to make 2 streamers.

- Lacework - This technique is great for wedding or baby shower cakes. You should practice this technique to make sure you have good control before you use it in your cake decorating. Using thin white icing, hold the bag at nearly a 90 degree angle and very close to the surface of the cake. You will want to make a border so you will need to decide how far you want to go in from the edge and make an icing border.

Move the tip up down and around to make many similar shapes, do not touch or cross the other designs. Do this until the area is as full as you want it to be. Now you can go over the border on both sides with a thicker icing. You will be amazed at the lacework you have created.

Feta Cheese: A Mediterranean Staple comes to the Rest of the World

Published by admin under Cheese

Feta cheese has been a staple in Mediterranean cooking for centuries, but has only become popular in the United States in the past thirty years or so. The reason for this may be attributed in part to the fact that it is not easy to find good feta cheese in this country. Due to its popularity in the Mediterranean region, very little of the product is actually exported to the rest of the world. When you do find good quality feta, it is often quite expensive, leaving many Americans to settle for the lesser quality but functional counterparts in many of our recipes.

How is this Cheese Manufactured?

Feta cheese is always made from sheep s milk, which is how it originated, or from goat s milk today. It is a rich, white soft cheese that is usually aged in brine for anywhere from four to six weeks to get the sharp and salty taste that many enjoy. It is a staple in almost all Mediterranean recipes, used in one form or another. It is best when it is fresh, so only buy it when you are going to use it quickly. If you must store your feta cheese for a period of time, storage in a milk bath will allow you to keep your cheese for up to three months in the refrigerator.

How is this Cheese Eaten?

Feta cheese is used in a variety of recipes, and can also be delicious sprinkled in salads or on pasta dishes. It pairs particularly well with other Mediterranean staples like anchovies, olives and tomatoes. It can be used interchangeably with goat s cheese, and can be substituted with Muenster cheese in a pinch. Feta cheese tastes best when it is left at room temperature for 30 minutes prior to serving, and melts easily when cooked, making it a great choice as a topper of filling for a variety of dishes. It can also be eaten as a snack on crackers or bread.

Feta cheese is a popular choice for many hot and cold pasta dishes and pairs well with many lamb recipes also. It can be baked, or simply tossed or mixed into a recipe in its original state. You can find feta cheese at many local grocers, but gourmet food shops may offer a higher quality of this cheese to bring out the best in your Mediterranean recipes.

Edible flowers are often used as a garnish or as an ingredient in salads. While not all flowers are edible, there are many out there that are. Is an Electric Cheese Grater Right for You?

Published by admin under Cheese

Graters cut cheese into small, thin slivers which are perfect for garnishing a variety of dishes. The increased surface area allows cheese to melt more quickly in dishes such as nachos and lasagna. Traditionally, these small pieces of cheese were created by the use of a hand-held grater. A repetitive motion, gliding a block of cheese across the grater s surface, was required to shred the cheese. However, many found this method to be tiring and eventually painful to the hands when the task was performed repeatedly or over a long period of time. This unfortunate circumstance may hinder cooks from performing their best work. An electric cheese grater takes much of the labor out of the task, without compromising the quality of the resulting cheese pieces.

This kitchen appliance is a great help to those who prepare meals that involve the grating of food frequently. It saves on preparation time, allowing the cook to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Electric cheese graters, as a time saving option, are preferable to the alternative of buying pre-grated cheese. This is because the resulting cheese shreds will be fresher and thus retain more of their flavor. Any cook who takes pride in her cooking wishes to have the freshest, most flavorful ingredients in her recipes.

Choosing the Right One

Choosing the right electric cheese grater is like any other purchase. It is important to shop around for the best price, read customer reviews where available, and ask others for recommendations. Friends, especially those who cook, may be able to recommend an electric cheese grater that will suit you. However, it is essential to be clear about your specific needs, such as how you will be using the appliance and what you hope to achieve with it. Electric cheese graters range from the very small to the very large (and expensive) restaurant grade. Purchasing one that is not sufficient for your projects is just as wasteful as choosing one with functions you have no use for.

A popular option for the typical domestic cook is the cordless electric cheese grater variety because it provides the convenience of an electric cheese grater, with the ease of movement that would not be possible if the cook were constrained by the limits of an electrical cord. When choosing a cordless version, bear in mind that rechargeable units typically have stronger and more consistent power, while battery operated models are best only for small jobs or soft cheese.

Making A Large Home Brew: Things To Keep In Mind

Published by admin under Beer Brewing

If you already brew at home, whether that be beer, ice tea or coffee, for instance, then you obviously already know how the process goes. However typically people make smaller brews, and so if you are planning on making a large home brew, then there are several pointers that you are absolutely going to want to take into consideration.

Things To Think About Before You Make A Large Home Brew

The first thing that you are going to want to think about when you are planning on making a large home brew is the fact that it is going to take a lot more time, effort and money. So if you do not have a lot extra of all of these, then perhaps you should just reconsider.

Most people only plan on making a large home brew if they are having a lot of people over or if they are planning to store most of the brew away so that they can use it in the future, and both of these reasons are acceptable. For any other reasons you would probably be best just to stick with making smaller more frequent brews.

Another thing that you are going to want to think about before making a large home brew is the fact of whether you have the space to do it. After all, you can quite easily make a small home brew right in a tiny kitchen, however when it comes to a larger one you may have difficulty if you do not have enough room for everything.

After all you are going to need more room in the fridge, in the sink and on the countertop in general, and you certainly do not want to get started first and then realize that unfortunately you do not have enough room for everything and that you are thus in big trouble.

There are basically two options that you have here: either you should stick to making smaller brews so that you have more free space to work with, or find a friend or family member s home during those one or two times that you need to make an especially large brew.

Besides that, you really should have no problems, and just make sure that you are as informed and knowledgeable on this topic in general as you can be before you get started, so that you can come out with the best results you possibly can overall.

Follow the How to Make Home Brew Instructions for Great Beer

Published by admin under Beer Brewing

Brewing homemade beer can be fun to do and all you need to do is to follow exactly the how to make home brew instructions and you will find yourself embroiled in a new activity that will soon get you hooked on it. Learning to make your own beer at home is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends as well as see yourself becoming more popular amongst your old friends. It should also instill in you a new sense of pride and purpose and it will do wonders for your self-confidence as well, and also improve the quality of your life.

You Can Even Call Yourself a Brewmaster

After you master the how to make home brew instructions you can rightly call yourself a brewmaster. Be apprised that there are basically four things to deal in this activity that includes water, malt, hops as well as yeast. To begin with water first, you need to understand that charcoal filtered water is what you should aim to use, and if you are using city water, then you must boil it so that it is free of chlorine. You can avoid distilled water and opt for anything that tastes good since water will affect how your beer is going to taste finally.

The next thing you will learn from the how to make home brew instructions is to use malt which is a grain that should have its starch transformed into sugar, and the best thing to use is malt extract which is the sugar from the malt that is mostly available in syrup or dried powder form.

You should now follow the how to make home brew instructions and take the next step which concerns hops which is the flower that provides bitterness, and adds flavor as well as aroma to the beer. How much bitterness you desire on having depends on which the type of hop is as well as how long you boil the hops. As soon as the boil is nearing its end you can add hops in order to get the flavor and for some aroma you may either add hops at the later stages of fermentation and prior to bottling, or use dry hopping.

The last bit of information that you will glean from the how to make home brew instructions is concerning the yeast that causes sugars to transform into alcohol as well as carbon dioxide gas with the whole process being known as fermentation. You can also choose between ale and lager yeast.

Lastly, any good how to make home brew instructions will almost always emphasize that the best and perhaps only way to make wonderful beer is to keep everything clean. That means that anything and everything that touches your brewed beer should be clean and you would be well advised to use a sanitizer such as Star San or something similar to get the best out of your brewing process.

Cream Cheese is a Versatile Choice for Many Recipes

Published by admin under Cheese

Cream cheese was invented in 1872 by an enterprising dairyman who realized that by adding cream to the cheese mixture, he could create one of the smoothest and creamiest cheeses on the market. The product quickly took off, and was sold in tin wrapped packets under the name of Philadelphia Brand. In 1928, Kraft Foods bought out the company and continues to market this brand of cheese to this day. Cream cheese is a popular choice for many recipes in the United States, but in Europe it is served as any other cheese on platters or cut up into salads. While many folks envision rich cheesecakes and other desserts when they think of this cheese, it is also a popular ingredient in entrees and side dishes as well.

How Cream Cheese is Manufactured

By law, cream cheese must have a fat content of 33%, although some low-fat varieties are now sold on the market as well. This type of cheese is not aged in any way, meaning that it has a much shorter shelf life than many other cheeses. Because of its high fat content, emulsifiers are added to increase the firmness of the cheese. Because of its short shelf life, it is better to select the freshest cream cheese possible, and to use it within a week after opening the package. If mold appears on your cream cheese, it is not safe to simply scrape off the moldy areas and eat the rest of the block. Due to the way this cheese is manufactured, you must discard the entire package and purchase a fresh one.

How Cream Cheese is used

This type of cheese makes a very popular spread for bagels and crusty breads, and is often topped with fruit, jam or smoked salmon. It spreads easiest when it is at room temperature, although it can go directly from the refrigerator to the microwave for a few seconds to make it easier to spread as well. It is also a popular choice for recipes such as cheesecakes, frostings and dips, due to its creamy texture and tangy flavor. There are now varieties of cream cheese on the market that have been whipped with air to give it a lighter and fluffier texture, and some products have been mixed with fruits, onion or garlic to make a tasty spread for your bagels or crackers.

If you are interested in finding more recipes using this rich and creamy cheese, you need not look any further than your computer. The Internet is abounding with cream cheese recipes that will fill any part of your menu.

Home Tea Brewers Take Beverage Seriously

Published by admin under Beer Brewing

For some, home tea brewers involve a cup of water heated in the microwave and a tea bag. However, for true tea lovers making a quality cup of tea is more serious than making a cup of fancy cappuccino or latte and may take as much equipment and time. Bringing out the pure taste of the tea can be accomplished in many home tea brewers available on the market without spending every dime you own.

From automatic home tea brewers for hot tea, iced tea and from one cup to gallon-size containers, making tea has become an art of its own. Of course, the tea bag was invented to keep loose tea leaves from permeating the beverage and replaced the tea holder most often used to brew tea. This small, metal, teardrop-shaped device would hold enough dried tea leaves to typically brew two cups of hot tea, and then was easily cleaned for the next session.

However, the filtered tea bag replaced this small accessory and people are beginning to revert to the fresher flavor claimed to be available by using fresh tea leaves. Many home tea brewers use loose tea leaves and similar to ground coffee makers, use a filtering system to keep the leaves out of the water.

Ice Tea Similarly Made As Hot Tea

There are some home tea brewers that use the same process of a coffee maker, passing hot water through the tea leaves at a predetermined temperature with the amount of leaves in the filter determining the strength of the tea, and pumping the beverage into a storage pitcher, typically one-gallon size. The tea can be poured and consumed hot or placed in the refrigerator with optional ice cubes to be consumed cold.

There are many varieties and flavors of tea available in both loose and bagged style, to use in individual brewers. The home tea brewers can brew from one to 12-cups at a time in about the same amount of time as it takes to make coffee or to heat water in a microwave. Some tea aficionados insist tea leaves must be boiled with the water to extract all available flavors, even if using bags, instead of simply allowing them to steep in hot water, place them in the water as it is heated.

Many real tea drinkers describe needing adequate time for the tea flavor to completely take over the water, and will use nothing but fresh tea leaves and home tea brewers, without a bag in order to brew what they consider the perfect cup of tea.

Cottage Cheese: The Healthiest of all Cheeses

Published by admin under Cheese

Cheese is a healthy choice in diets today, and is recommended to be consumed as often as possible because it contains calcium that can strengthen your bones naturally. However, cheese also has two other factors that you may want to take in consideration. First, it is fattening and second, it hard to digest. However, there are reasons why cottage cheese is recommended as the healthiest cheese of all.

The Making of Cheese

All cheese is made out of milk that is extracted from animals such as sheep, cows or goats. The fresh milk that is taken from these animals is left to coagulate in order to form curds, which are usually pressed and aged into the product that we know as cheese.

The process of cottage cheese is slightly different because it is not pressed, and therefore it is left in its natural form containing whey. Cottage cheese is not aged like other cheeses, but sometimes it is washed in order to get the taste that you desire.

The Healthier Choice

The cottage cheese we find in the supermarket is often not made from fresh whole milk like other cheeses are. Instead, in order to make it low in fat and carbohydrates, it is made from skim milk, which provides us with great taste with fewer calories, fat and carbohydrates, making it a healthy choice for any diet.

Cottage cheese is recommended with a fruit garnish in the morning, or as a quick snack at the office. For convenience, you can find it in individual packages garnished with fruits, jam or nuts. Cottage cheese is healthy and tasty at any time of the day, and eating it as a small snack will not slow you down, but in fact refresh and invigorate your senses until the next meal.

Helpful Tips

You will be able to find cottage cheese in all leading supermarkets, but if you are watching your waistline you may want to read carefully the labels for those that are marked as skim or low fat. This will ensure that your cottage cheese treat will be a healthy part of even the strictest diet plan. Eating healthy is a choice we make everyday and now you can do so without compromising on taste, since cottage cheese tastes great whether it is made with low fat, skim or whole milk; the choice is yours.

Making Home Made Root Beer Can Be A Challenge

Published by admin under Beer Brewing

For some reason many people enjoy brewing home made root beer, but face some difficulty in finding the right ingredients that yield the flavor they are looking for. For the most part, root beer is flavored with sassafras, but since the root contains safrole, a known carcinogen, the Food and Drug Administration has banned its sales in the United States, and other parts of the plant are used.

However, most people trying to make home made root beer simply go to the store and buy root beer flavoring, found in the spice aisle in most grocery stores. The root beer can be carbonated either naturally or mechanically by injecting carbon dioxide into the drink before it is bottled. The trouble some have with using the mechanical means is the cost of the unit and the fact that it can only carbonate one bottle at a time. When making home made root beer, dry yeast can be used for natural carbonation, which can cause explosive problems if not done right.

When sugar and yeast is mixed with water, the yeast will grow causing the carbonation in the drink. It will not stop growing until the sugar is gone, which is why many times even when placed in cold surroundings, bottles have been known to explode due to too much carbonation.

Using Recipe, Follow Instructions Closely

If you are using a recipe, especially one from a spice mix, follow all directions closely, especially concerning timing of certain steps. Starting with a quart of warm water and mixing in two cups of sugar, one teaspoon of yeast and two tablespoons of root beer extract calls for the home made root beer to sit covered, not capped, for six hours before tightening the lid and putting it in the refrigerator.

Putting the lid on too tight too soon can make the bottle explode due to excess carbonation from the yeast s action with the sugar. Another recipe for home made root beer calls for basically the same ingredients, except it uses two and a half cups of sugar and after six hours of sitting uncovered, goes into the refrigerator overnight. Some people have found that the mess from potentially bursting bottles can be minimized by putting the bottles in a covered tub. If they do explode, the mess is contained.

Some concern exists that allowing the home made root beer to ferment alcohol will permeate the beverage, and while there may be some alcohol, it will not typically be anymore that shows up in fresh squeezed citrus juice.

How To Run A Cake Decorating Business From Your Home

Published by admin under Cake Decorating

There is nothing like working from home. It is cheaper because you don’t need to commute or buy a special wardrobe to go out into the public. You can also use a home office as a tax write off. Here are some ideas to help you start and succeed in a home based cake decorating business.

- Find a Unique Way to Sell Your Cakes - Think about why people should come to you for their cakes instead of going to a bakery. Do your cakes taste better, are they more beautiful, do you offer a unique style, or do you provide better service (drop off cakes on the special day)? You may want to offer all of these things to get the customers coming to you. Once they see the beautiful work you do, they will tell everyone they know and you will be able to get more business.

- Use Press Releases: You should send a press release to local and nearby news papers every time you participate in nonprofit or community events in your town. You should also send a press release if you have anything happen with your business. When you do, be sure to mention everything that makes your business unique. This will be a bit of advertisement along with the announcement.

- Advertise in newspapers and shoppers: Make sure to advertise your business. You should take out a larger ad the month of May for graduation, in May and June for weddings, or when a big event is going to take place. Place ads in the high school paper, or if you have a college nearby, you can advertise in any paper they may have and on the bulletin board. Before you do think about what discounts or specials you can offer for these events. Make sure you specify that all orders need to be in by a certain date, this could prompt buyers to take action and order from you.

- A Business Website: You should create a website for your cake decorating business. Make the site informative and easy to navigate. Show samples of your cake decorating skills, and mention how unique your business is, if you are flexible, and what type of cake decorating you do. You may or may not want to put prices on your website, sometimes it is better to have them call you and you can quote them a price, according to their needs. When you advertise, make sure you include your web address in your advertising.

- Look for Distributors: One way to expand your business is to find other businesses who are willing to advertise your cake decorating business. Coffee shops and restaurants will probably be your best bet. This will give your business more exposure and save you from having to open a store of your own. In exchange for this service they would receive a commission on each order you receive from their establishment.

- Barter with local party and event planners: You can strike up a bargain with local planners to show your portfolio to their customers. In exchange you can recommend them to your customers. Get included in their list of vendors, and they may have you making and decorating all of their cakes.

- Offer Free Products for fund raisers, church activities, local events and festivals. Get involved in fundraising for local charities, school, church, and business events. By offering a free cake for these events, you will be gaining a great deal of advertising exposure. Make up brochures and hand them out when you are in attendance.

- Real Estate Offering: Contact local Realtors and offer a special on housewarming cakes for their clients. Realtors often give a gift to clients when they sell a home. When you make cakes for these occasions, make sure to place the cake in a beautiful cake box imprinted with your business name, address, phone, and web address. You can also include a discount coupon if they order a cake within a certain time frame.

- Referrals: Tell everyone you come into contact with about your business. Carry business cards with all of your information on it. Give them 2 or 3 cards and ask them to pass them along to others who might be interested in using your talents. You should also ask customers for referrals. Offer them a discount on their next cake if they can drum up new business for you.

An Array of Choice in Cheese Slicers

Published by admin under Cheese

If you enjoy eating a fresh slice of cheese that is cut right from the block, you probably have some sort of cheese slicer in your kitchen cupboard. While knives can cut some of the harder variety of cheeses sufficiently, it is better by far to use a cheese slicer to get perfect portions of cheese every time. There are a variety of slicers on the market today, and some will work best for individual use and cooking, while others are pretty and functional enough for your entertaining needs. No cocktail party is complete without a cheese platter, and no cheese platter is complete without a cheese slicer.

The History of the Cheese Slicer

The cheese slicer was invented by a Norwegian carpenter named Thor Bjorklund in 1925. His wife had sent a chunk of cheese to his workshop for lunch one day, and the innovative carpenter needed a way to cut off smaller slices. Through that experience, he created the first cheese slicer, which he also patented that same year. The slicer began to be mass produced in Norway in 1927. Since that time, many variations have been created on Bjorklund s design, allowing every cook to find the perfect slicer to meet his needs. Although they are most popular in some European countries where sliced cheese on bread is a common fare, many styles have gained momentum in the United States as well.

Different Designs of Slicers

There are a variety of designs of cheese slicers, including those that are primarily for functional purposes. These can include many hand-held designs, and can run the gamut in quality and price. If you slice a lot of cheese to use in your recipes and cooking, it is best to find a high-quality and functional design that will last through time and plenty of use. On the other hand, if your main purpose in a cheese slicer will be for entertaining, there are many styles on the market that are beautiful as well as functional. Some of these designs are crafted out of high-quality wood or even marble, and some come with a built in tray to hold crackers or slices of bread.

These attractive cheese slicers can also make a wonderful gift for the person on your list that seems to have everything. You can throw in a package of delicious French cheese and a bottle of wine to complement, and your recipient has the beginning supplies for a lovely cocktail gathering.

The Virtues of Home Made Beer

Published by admin under Beer Brewing

There is no taste at all like the taste of home made beer. It has a freshness all of its own. You can choose to make the variety of beer of your choice. You can choose to make it as strong as you like. You can include fresh ingredients of your choice. With home made beer you have control of all these things and more. You can make the process as complicated or as simple as you want. Making beer at home can be a great deal of fun and makes for a lot of wonderful occasions. There is nothing like well brewed home made beer as most of your friends would agree.

Beer Making at Home

The bottom line is following the correct process and using the right equipment required to make good home made beer. It is most important to select high quality equipment and the correct pieces of equipment. The internet is full of advertisements for starter kits that have the needed equipment priced as a single lot.

This is a good way to buy the kit, or equipment, as you can be relatively sure that someone has thought out exactly what you need. Their goal will be for you to be immediately successful as this will bring you back to them to buy more and better equipment. These internet sites offer you an alternative to finding a specialty store. However, the internet may not be able to provide you with advice, or may not be able to provide you with that bit of equipment just as you need it.

The quality of home made beer also depends on the selection of the ingredients and the recipe. The best beers are usually made from fresh yeast and fresh hops and perhaps, even barley, if you like strong ales. Some home brewers also experiment with using fresh wheat extracts. Home made wheat beer is quite difficult to make.

The recipe is a little different and the fermentation processes are a little more like art than science. For the beer connoisseur, wheat beers are special, as they are often not completely fermented and have a special taste to them. Needless to say, should the home brewer get the process slightly wrong their home made beer will put the family in the emergency room of the local hospital. Home made beer with the wrong kinds of floaters does not go down too well in the digestive system.

Drinking Beer Properly

Home made beer can almost be consumed at will. You should be no need to go and get another six-pack once the beer making process is underway. There should always be sufficient beer at hand for everyone. Of course this may not be true if you are over fond of the good stuff and tend to push the limits anyway. Therefore, you must never drink home made beer and drive for it will be hazardous to your health.

Sure, there are many beers to choose from that are sold in bars and gas stations but there is always room for improvement. That s right, Tulsa home brewing has never been easier since the advent of the internet. All you have to do is look up how to brew your own beer and you can find a lot of information on how to do it, as well as find out how to brew different types of beer.

Patience Is Key

When you brew your own beer, you first must decide what kind of beer you would like to brew. You can find different ingredients that make different kinds of beers. For example, you can make light beer, dark beer, heavy beer or any combination of the three, or you can even form your own creation by experimentation. Just remember that beer takes time to ferment. That means that the bacteria in the beer have to work their magic in order for the beer to attain the proper taste and potency level that make a good beer. If you try to force the fermentation process, you won t be happy with the results and you will essentially have wasted your time.

When you make your own Tulsa home brew, invite all your friends over so that they can have a taste. You often have to have a second opinion to make sure that your Tulsa home brew came out as expected and there is no better way to do that than to invite all your friends over for a Tulsa home brew party. Just make sure that you offer free Tulsa home brew. Selling beer, or any liquor for that matter, requires a license and you wouldn t want to break any laws in your Tulsa home brew ventures.

The only thing you have to do is decide which kinds of beer you want to brew. You can even brew several different kinds and have a kind of taste test amongst you and your friends. Once you find the kind of Tulsa home brew you like, you can make as much of as you want. Then, you won t have to settle for all the beers commercially available to you. You can make your own Tulsa home brew and you have the freedom to make it just the way you like it.
